Bio
Lawrence “Woody” Widmark Bio Born in Sitka, Alaska, Woody spent his years attending school, working, raising a family and volunteering for his tribal government and its citizens. He is a citizen of the Sitka Tribe of Alaska and a member of the Tlingit Dakl’aweidí clan (Eagle/Killerwhale). Woody has served on the Sitka Tribal Council for 30 years, 20 of those as Chairman. His mother is Pearl (Young) Dick and his father is Lawrence “Buddy” Widmark. Woody graduated from Sitka High School and has an Associates of Arts degree from Sheldon Jackson College. Woody worked as the Sports Coordinator for Sitka Community Schools until retiring in 2015, his hobbies include coaching Little League baseball, and officiating youth basketball, softball, volleyball and basketball. During the decades spent working with and for our enrolled tribal citizens and residents of Sitka, he strives to build and maintain stability within the Sitka Tribe of Alaska. He believes it is important to listen to and communicate with individuals, entities and agencies in order to ensure the health, safety, welfare and cultural preservation of more than 4,400 enrolled Sitka Tribal citizens. Current activities include serving on the following Tribe committees: Governance committee; Finance, Economic and Community Development committee; and Human Services committee. He also has served on the Health Committee, Sitka Tribal Enterprises Board, Enrollment Committee, Village Committee, Boys & Girls Club Committee, and externally on the Native American Rights Fund Board, EPA Tribal Leaders Council, Tongass Futures Roundtable, SEARHC Board, BIHA Board of Commissioners, and City of Sitka Parks and Recreation Committee.
