For our Fall Speaker Series, we are hosting an 6-week program focused on Sitka's childcare-focused. Join us over the course of this Fall for a childcare deep-dive. This informative series will explore the current state of childcare in Sitka and discuss what is being done to improve it.

Evolution of Childcare in Sitka

The panel luncheon will explore the evolution of childcare in Sitka, from its early development to the role it plays in supporting families today. Attendees will engage in a discussion about the current challenges facing childcare providers, including affordability, staffing, and sustainability. Looking to the future, the panel will address potential solutions and innovations that can ensure accessible, high-quality care for all children in the community.

Your Panelists
Ellen Hughes, assistant director and classroom teacher at Betty Eliason Child Care Center,
has been a nanny and childcare provider for 35+ years.
 
Joel Markis, current Board President of the Betty Eliason Child Care Center,
brings over two decades of experience in education and nonprofit work.
 
Kari Sagel, teacher librarian, has been with the Early Childhood Coalition for 6 years. 
 
Lauren Wild, assistant professor at UAS, is a parent and child care advocate.
 
Becky Workman, former director of SEARHC Child Care Center,
has 44 years experience in early childhood education.
