Bio
Barbara Bingham is a 42 year resident of Alaska, residing in Sitka, mostly, for the past 35 years. After teaching in Anchorage for several years, she followed in the wake of many Alaskans, crewing in the gillnet and long line fisheries; then operated a charter business for 15 years, specializing in marine eco-tours. She subsequently worked as an agent at Alaska Airlines for ten years.
A founding member of Island Artists Gallery, a local art co-op open year round, she remains active in that endeavor, as well as in her position as resident manager at Fisherman’s Quay, a multi-use waterfront facility,
“The consistent focus in much of my work”, Barb says, “has been that of serving people, mostly visitors. Sharing what I know and love about southeastern Alaska — from guiding in remote areas to assisting with travel and lodging logistics and how best to experience Sitka — has been amazingly satisfying, and strengthens my own appreciation for our local natural and cultural treasures.
